This is not a drill! I repeat… THIS. IS. NOT. A. DRILL!!!! 2020 is here people!
As you can tell by some of my previous posts, I’m in full blown goal setting mode. I’m spending the first few weeks of 2020 setting an actionable plan for the rest of my year so that I can hopefully have another amazing year. As I discussed in How to choose a word of the year, one of my favorite exercises to do each year is to come up with a new word of the year to use my mantra to help guide me throughout the year.
This word of the year isn’t meant to replace any of my goals or resolutions for the year, it’s meant to work along side my goals to help me stay on track. If you want to read more about how to pick your word of the year, make sure to check out my guide here.
What is my word of the year?
I really didn’t have to work very hard to come up with my word this year. I had several words flying around my head while I was going through my brainstorming exercise but I just kept coming back to one word over and over and over again. It’s a word that I have repeated many times over when talking about 2020 so I figured I should stop thinking and just go with it. Obviously, this was it if I kept using the word.
It’s such a straight forward word, focus. Used as a noun Focus means- the center of interest or activity. The state or quality of having or producing clear visual definition. But as a verb Focus means to adapt to the prevailing level of light and become able to see clearly or to pay particular attention to.
When we think of 2020, we tend to think of it in terms of sight. What do we say when someone is able to see extremely clearly? We say that they have 20/20 vision. Their eyes have an amazing way of focusing on things and seeing them clearly. So there really is no more perfect word that fits 2020 for me than focus.
This year, I want to work hard on staying focused and on track and accomplishing my goals.
