There is more Disney news! Can you believe it?!
If you read my post last week, you know that we recently had some major updates made to the rules at Disney world parks. If you haven’t had a chance to read that yet, click here and make sure you’re up to date with the new rules.
Well guess what… we have even more changes coming to the Parks. This really is a pretty exciting time for Disney World and Disneyland Parks.
So let’s jump into some of these new exciting things coming up.
1- We finally have an opening day for Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge at both Disney World and Disneyland!
Disneyland (those lucky ducks) will get to see the all new Star Wars Land opening before Disney World Orlando does. Disneyland’s opening date is May 31, 2019. Now this isn’t going to be a mass opening where just anyone can come in. Disneyland is requiring reservations if you want to visit Galaxy’s Edge between May 31, 2019 to June 23, 2019. As of right now, the only way that you can book the reservation is if you are staying at one of three of the Disneyland Resort Hotels between those dates. The reservations will come with time limits within the park too. So you won’t be able to spend the entire day in there. You’ll be given a time that you can enter and a time that you’ll have to leave. No word yet how this will be regulated. After June 23, 2019 a reservation will no longer be required and instead they will have an virtual queue system, unlike anything Disney has ever used before. This virtual queue will provide you will allow visitors to wander around Disneyland while waiting to enter Galaxy’s Edge, according to the OC Register .
Disney World will see Galaxy’s Edge opening a little later in the year on August 29,2019. The Disney World opening will not require reservations (at least as of right now) so you can expect long wait times and the possibility of reaching max capacity for the park very early in the day.
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will not have fastpasses available at either park when it finally opens later in the year. So just be warned, you won’t be getting any fastpasses for that ride when it first opens. Again, expect long waits. But never fear, Disney has stated that they will be offering concessions in the line, so you will be able to eat. Also, don’t forget that there will be knew games in the Disney Play app specifically for Galaxy’s Edge, so you will be able to entertain yourself while waiting.
2- We have dates for the Food and Wine Festival.
It’s looking like August 29th is going to not only be a historic day for Disney World with opening new part of Hollywood Studios, but also a very busy one. The Food and Wine Festival will be running from August 29, 2019 to November 23, 2019. This is an impressive run for the food and wine festival. This years Food and Wine Festival will be running for a grand total of 87 days. The 2019 Food and Wine Festival will be the longest in Disney World History! So you’ll have lots of time to head down and check out the new things being offered this year.
3. We have new merch colors.
Adding to the amazing colors we saw added last year with Potion Purple and Rose Gold, we are keeping on the color train and adding in two new colors this year! Dapper Yellow Spirit Jerseys and Briar Rose Gold.
Personally, I’m not a huge yellow fan but I’ll admit, this bright dapper yellow is pretty eye catching. It’s almost a Meyer lemon/ florescent yellow. If it wasn’t already so hot here in Florida, I would have gotten one. I’m holding off till it cools back down though. As of right now, this color will only be available in the Spirit Jerseys. So no Dapper Yellow ears…sorry guys.
Unlike Dapper Yellow only being available in the Spirit Jerseys, Briar Rose Gold has a whole line available. Of course you’ll be able to pick up a pair of the iconic Briar Rose Gold Ears, but you’ll also see this available in Spirit Jerseys, Tublers, and T-shirts.There are also Briar Rose gold snacks! You’ll be able to dress head to toe in Briar Rose Gold on your next trip.
Personally, I think this color is VERY similar to the Rose Gold ears they released last year but it does appear to be slightly darker and not as pinky or “rose” toned as the original Rose Gold. Either way, it’s still very pretty and I think a must add to any collection.
3. Lighting McQueen’s Racing Academy Opened.
Hollywood Studios has a lot going on this year…they are celebrating the 30th anniversary, Galaxy’s Edge is opening later in the year, and Lightning McQueen’s Racing academy just opened. This is a really neat experience the whole family can enjoy. This interactive show has a very realistic animatronic Lightning McQueen showing you what he’s learned over the years as a racer. Outside of the show are photo ops with DJ and Cruz Ramirez at DJ’s Read!Set!Party! dance party, where there will be dancing and music.
4. New Photopass at the Haunted Mansion
Who doesn’t love a good photopass on a ride? Well Haunted Mansion has FINALLY added a photopass to the ride. While you’re hanging out in your doom buggy, you get your picture taken with a couple of hitchhiking ghosts. But be warned, this picture is taken at the beginning of the ride, not at the end….so make sure you’re looking at the camera.
5. Festival of the Holiday’s will be returning to Epcot
Just days after food and Wine ends this year, the Festival of the Holiday’s will be opening at Epcot. Festival of the Holiday’s will run from November 29, 2019 – December 30, 2019 this year.
6. New Starbucks Mugs
The Starbucks Locations in all of the parks for both Disneyland and Disney World will be seeing new mugs available. As you know, they have had the “you are here” mugs available but this year they are debuting the “Pin Drop” or “Been There” collection. As of right now, these mugs are only available in park, so you cannot buy them on the shopdisney site as of yet.
6. Bricks around the world have been retired
The bricks along the walkway surrounding Magic Kingdom and the ticketing center at Disney World that displayed names, dates, and important events, known as the Bricks Around the World, have been retired. Commemorative bricks are available for purchase but the sidewalk bricks are being removed.
7. New refillable mugs for the DDP
If you have ever had the Disney Dining Plan ( DDP) , you’ve seen the refillable mugs that you can use for free soda, water, coffee, and juices while you are at your resorts. Well, we’ve recently gotten some new designs. A Pixar refillable resort mug, that will feature different pixar characters. A Refillable resort mug, which will feature vacationing Mickey characters. And Finally a Mickey refillable resort mug featuring different Mickey and Minnie images.
So lots of new things coming to Disney World Resorts over the next few months. This is only a short list and I’ll be updating you as more news and announcements come out. Let me know in the comment section below what you’re most excited about. And don’t forget to follow me so you can stay up to date with all of the Disney News.
