Happy New Years guys!!!
I know this gets said a lot but… wow this past year went by fast! I swear, as I get older, it feels like the years pass by faster and faster.
That’s why I think it’s important to take a second to reflect on everything that I’ve managed to do over the last year. Now, this doesn’t have to be a reflection on the physical things that I’ve done, rather an all encompassing look back on everything from accomplishments to places we’ve traveled.
To kick things off, I think the biggest thing that we did this year, as a family, was paying off debt. It’s hard living with a lot of debt. It really limits your ability to do things… sometimes big things like repairs. But over the last few years we’ve worked hard, lived a cash only lifestyle, and paid off as much debt as we were able to. This finally all paid off this year. It’s been nice to be able to have things happen (like our AC not working) and be able to pay to have the repairs done without it hurting us or having to call in favors from family.
The next big thing we did… buying a new van. With having 5 growing kids, that minivan of ours was starting to feel very cramped. So, after a lot of looking and dealing with car issues, we finally made the leap and bought a new van. We went big too… 12 passenger Ford Transit big. It’s so nice having a large reliable van for the family to ride around it. I can separate all of the kids into their own little sections… No more “mom, she’s breathing my air” arguments for us! YAY! It really is nice to be able to move the kids around and be able to give everyone a bit of space when we are driving. It’s cut down on the amount of fighting and noise while we drive and just makes our drive times much more pleasant. Now, this may also be due to the fact that you basically need an intercom system to talk to the people in the back so it may just be that I’m not be hearing them, but I’m not going to question it too much.
The new van brings me to our next big thing… we became Disney annual pass holders. So the big family present this year for Christmas was annual passes to Disney. We are looking forward to being able to make that 3 hour drive to see the big guy at least once a month. Its going to give us the ability to really go out and make some fun family memories, and having that big new van is going to make our drive so much better.
We managed to get out and do a lot this year. We got to go do the summer park hops with the Jacksonville Moms Blog team all summer long and we got to meet some pretty amazing new people. We made lots of trips down to St Augustine, the beach, and different parks around town. We got out more and did more than we’ve done in a long time. It was so nice to actually be out and about.
Personally, I got to try some new things out this year, including trying my hand at selling Pampered Chef for a while, which I actually really enjoyed. It allowed me to kind of step out of my comfort zone and talk to new people. It also allowed me to spend some time working on and learning new creative techniques.
I also managed to grow my youtube channel quite a bit over the year. Now I’ve had to take a step back from that just simply because i had basically zero time to really work on videos but my hope for this year is to pick back up where I left off and really get into the whole vlogging thing more. I love making and editing videos and I’ve learned so much from it.
Something else I really enjoyed was being able to go see Meredith from That’s inappropriate live. She is one of my all time favorite people to watch and her articles are amazing. That show was absolutely hilarious and it was so nice to be able to go hang out with a bunch of other moms and just have fun. I can’t wait to do more things like this.
So overall, 2018 it was a pretty awesome year. We got to go and do so much more than normal and I got to branch out and try some new things. I’m really excited to see what 2019 has planned for us and to hopefully be able to go and do even more.
Happy new years friends, I hope you had an amazing 2018 and I wish all of the best for you and your families in the coming year!
